Launched in March 2024 as part of World Obesity Day, a new initiative by our colleagues in La Mattina Dopo Odv, Italy is witnessing a unique project that empowers bariatric patients with the knowledge and skills to make suitable food choices. The “ObesityFoodTime” project, launched by a team of dedicated healthcare professionals and renowned chefs, aims to support patients post-surgery by addressing common struggles with food selection, preparation, and nutrition.

Many bariatric patients report challenges in finding suitable foods and preparing meals that meet their nutritional needs. To address these concerns, ObesityFoodTime is touring Italy, bringing together chefs, pastry chefs, and pizza makers to lead cooking workshops tailored for those who have undergone bariatric surgery. These workshops, featuring Dr. Rossella D’Alessio (Surgeon) and Dr. Ginevra Pignata (Nutritionist), provide practical guidance to help participants learn about suitable ingredients, cooking methods, and personalised meal planning.

The project kicked off in Brescia and has already made stops in Parma and Bologna. The upcoming tour will cover cities like Milan and Padua, with a special pastry-focused session returning to Brescia. This initiative not only provides practical skills but also fosters a supportive community for participants, as part of their ongoing health journey.

Through hands-on guidance from culinary experts and healthcare professionals, ObesityFoodTime offers a fresh approach to post-operative support, combining education with a celebration of Italian cuisine.
