Landsforeningen for overvektige (LFO) is proud to announce its collaboration with the University of Agder (UiA) on an important initiative to address obesity and stigma in the Bachelor’s Programme in Nursing. Through the optional subject “Inclusion and Diversity in an Interdisciplinary Perspective,” the course explores the challenges faced by vulnerable patients, including those living with obesity, and emphasises the importance of dignity and respect in healthcare.
As part of the syllabus, LFO has contributed a one-hour video created by Mari-Mette Graff, which provides an authentic perspective based on lived experience. The video delves into the physical, psychological, and social aspects of health and highlights how stigma affects all these dimensions. This resource aims to foster deeper understanding and empathy among nursing students.
The course, led by Anja Nastasja Robstad, Ph.D., 
encourages critical reflection on inclusion and diversity at both national and international levels. Students engage in lectures, group discussions, and explore theories and practices related to interdisciplinary care. Ethical considerations and professional approaches to supporting patients in vulnerable situations are central themes of the curriculum.
Dr. Robstad, whose research focuses on healthcare professionals’ attitudes toward patients with obesity, has also published a recent study on the lived experiences of patients with obesity during hospital admissions in Norway. Her leadership ensures that the course is grounded in both theoretical knowledge and practical insight.
This collaboration between LFO and UiA is a significant step forward in tackling stigma in healthcare education, equipping future nurses with the tools and understanding to provide inclusive, compassionate care.
