Country Profile – England

Here at ECPO we are a European organisation consisting of volunteers from across 24 countries. Our aim is to support the national associations and collaborate as one strong united voice.

Obesity in England

In 2019 29% of adults are classed as living with obesity which is an increase from 26% in 2016. 20% of children in Year 6 as classed as a Patient With Obesity.

Treatment for obesity is usually by referral from your Family Doctor or via private healthcare. Obesity has not yet been recognised as a disease in England.

Organisations are available to support people who are living with obesity. The organisations available offer educational events (on site and virtual), Brochures and magazines, support for local self help groups which in turn serve patients.

Scientific Organisations

Scientific organisations that specialise in the treatment of obesity by supplying information on research and setting the guidelines for the treatments available.
