Diana Castillo Appointed as ECPO President

The European Coalition for People Living with Obesity (ECPO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Diana Castillo as the new President of ECPO. Diana is a highly respected leader with extensive lived experience and a deep commitment to patient advocacy. Her dedication to empowering individuals and ensuring that the patient voice is heard has been evident throughout her career, and we are confident that she will lead ECPO with vision and passion into 2025 and beyond.

Diana’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for ECPO, as she takes the helm with a strong focus on driving impactful change in the field of obesity advocacy. With her expertise, the organisation is well-positioned to continue its mission of addressing stigma, improving healthcare access, and fostering greater public awareness about obesity as a chronic disease.

Welcoming Federico Luis Moya as Vice President

Alongside Diana, we are also thrilled to announce the appointment of Federico Luis Moya as the new Vice President of ECPO. Federico, from Santander in the Spanish autonomous community of Cantabria, has been actively collaborating with non-governmental associations dedicated to combating obesity since 2014.

With years of dedication to obesity advocacy, Federico is passionate about achieving recognition of obesity as a disease, ensuring access to treatments based on the latest medical evidence, and defending the rights of people living with obesity. He believes that collaboration with organisations across EU member states is key to making lasting change, and we are excited to have his leadership alongside Diana in shaping the future of ECPO.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Carlos Oliveira

As we welcome Diana and Federico, we also take this opportunity to extend our deepest gratitude to Carlos Oliveira, who has played a pivotal role in shaping ECPO’s work. Having served as Board Member, Vice Chair, and Interim Chair, Carlos brought invaluable experience from local organisations, national advocacy, and international policy efforts.

Carlos stepped down as Chair on December 31, 2024, and while he will be greatly missed, we wish him and his wife, Manuela, a happy and fulfilling retirement from this role.

Looking Ahead

With Diana and Federico now leading ECPO, we look forward to an exciting future of bold initiatives, stronger patient representation, and innovative advocacy efforts. As we continue our work in policy change, patient support, and awareness-building, we are eager to see how their leadership will help elevate ECPO’s mission and expand its reach across Europe.

We encourage our community to join us in welcoming Diana Castillo and Federico Luis Moya, and in thanking Carlos Oliveira for his outstanding service. Together, we will continue to make positive strides in obesity advocacy and patient empowerment.
