COVID-19 (coronavirus) Statement UPDATE: 23rd March 2020
The European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) and the European Coalition for People Living with Obesity (EASO ECPO) leadership have been closely monitoring the international COVID-19 virus pandemic and the implications for the European patient community affected by the chronic disease obesity. Given the recent designation by the World Health Organisation (WHO) of COVID-19 as a global pandemic, we strongly urge our patient community and people across Europe living with obesity that avoiding infection is paramount. We are committed to keeping our community members and stakeholder partners safe.
Since patients living with chronic conditions are at risk of serious illness from COVID-19, we have instituted a remote meeting policy regarding ECPO related business for all ECPO leaders and Patient Council members until further notice. Many countries now urge people at high risk to stay indoors and isolate where advised. Our thoughts and wishes go out to all affected patients and healthcare staff at this difficult time.
We endorse the European Patients’ Forum (EPF) statement on COVID-19.
