Our colleagues in the Portuguese Association Against Childhood Obesity (APCOI) have featured in the Portuguese media this week as they announce the return of the highly successful Heróis da Fruta® campaign.
Since 2011, more than half a million children in Portugal have improved their daily eating habits with the help of the Heróis da Fruta campaigns.
The program which runs across Portugal combines educational materials starring an inspiring group of model characters who gain “superpowers” through the ingestion of healthy food and non-formal education techniques such as storytelling or gamification.
All contents Heroes of Fruit® are developed by a multidisciplinary team of experts and respect all the references of child nutrition and healthy eating, health education and health literacy of the World Health Organization (WHO), Directorate General of Health (DGS) and Directorate General of Education (DGE).
When speaking to reporters in Portugal, Mário Silva, President of APCOI, and ECPO Representative said “in the last school year, the Heróis da Fruta project reached 70% of Portuguese municipalities. This year we want to take the initiative even further.”
