Describe yourself in 3 words:
confident, stable, busy
Tell us a bit about yourself:
I am a WLS patient who has been fortunate that my surgery has helped me keep my weight at a healthy level for almost seventeen years but I am very aware that I am still living with obesity every day . I have a busy Job and a tight circle of good friends and family who are all very aware of the impact this condition has had on my life.
Where do you live:
I live on the beautiful west coast of Scotland.
What are some of your interests:
I have a young boxer dog who I love spending time with. I like to cycle. I also enjoy paddle boarding when the weather is very good and although I am almost sixty and should know better I still ride a motorbike.
What is your personal experience with obesity:
Obesity has been a problem for my entire adult life, I have always been active but it was starting to make that more difficult, my health was suffering and I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, My social life suffered as I no longer felt confident meeting new people. I tried to get help from my GP who was very sympathetic but after trying every medication available at the time was unable to offer any other solution and after a lot of research I decided to go for private WLS which was a long hard journey but ultimately successful. I still live with this every day and I still find food is the first consideration in most decisions I make about every day life. On the bright side I have found a community of people who ‘get it’ and made friends for life with people who I would otherwise never have met.
